After three flavorful years, one of Westfield Old Orchard Mall’s most recognizable dining destinations is saying goodbye. The Capital Grille, known for its elegant atmosphere and signature dry – aged steaks, will close its doors at the Skokie mall at the end of May, marking the end of a short yet memorable chapter in the mall’s culinary story.
The upscale restaurant, which opened in March 2020 in the former McCormick & Schmick’s space, quickly became a favorite among locals and visitors seeking fine dining in the north suburbs. With its 9,000 – square – foot layout, polished service, and curated wine list, The Capital Grille offered a touch of sophistication amid the mall’s bustling retail scene.
A spokesperson for Darden Restaurants, the parent company behind The Capital Grille, confirmed that the decision to close was made after careful evaluation. The company emphasized that the move was purely a business decision and expressed gratitude toward the team members who helped build the restaurant’s reputation.
While the closure may come as a surprise to loyal patrons, it reflects the evolving landscape of mall dining-where changing consumer habits and shifting foot traffic continue to reshape the way people experience food and leisure.
The Capital Grille will continue to serve guests at its other Chicagoland locations, including Lombard, Rosemont, Schaumburg, and Streeterville, ensuring fans can still enjoy its signature dishes and hospitality.
As the final day of service approaches, diners at Westfield Old Orchard are left with nostalgia for a place that blended fine dining with community warmth-a reminder that even short journeys can leave lasting flavors.
